David’s Bridal files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

David’s Bridal filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on April 2023, as it was nearly $260 million in debt. Three months later, the bridal company received court approval to be acquired by Cion Investment Corp.  (CNIC)  in a no-cash transaction deal that allowed the company to avoid a complete shutdown of its business and reduced its debt to around $50 million.

To keep David’s Bridal up and running, the new owner, Cion, agreed to pay debts and costs of leases and renewals to keep less than 200 locations open.

This is not the first time David’s Bridal has filed for bankruptcy. The company first filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2018 due to a decline in bridalwear demand and high inflation that caused tumultuous financial troubles.

However, the bridal company emerged from bankruptcy a year later after successfully completing its restructuring plan, which didn’t seem to last long enough, as it filed for bankruptcy again nearly five years later.

Nonetheless, the bridal company refuses to let these major setbacks affect its business. It has done everything in its power to reclaim its throne as the ultimate bridal destination and regain market share by acquiring new clientele.
